The attack dogs
are allover Edwards

My opinion by Crazy Eddie  (7/7/04)

John Kerry announced his pick for VP was John Edwards, and before the ink was dry the Republican attack dogs where out in full force attacking John Edwards. The Bush campaign is spending a boat load of money claiming the Edwards is Kerry’s second choice. They claim republican John McCain was Kerry’s first choice. This position is so disingenuous, John McCain was never seriously considered for VP. The whole McCain VP thing was an idea that was floated by the media, but never had any wings.

Within a half hour of Kerry's announcement that Edwards would be his running mate, the Republican National Committee  unleashed a 26-page document it called "Edwards In Depth," criticizing him as "phony and disingenous" and "unaccomplished." It listed several pages of quotes in which Kerry criticized Edwards for a lack of experience and said the senator's "rural populist message" was "just another gimmick." Why are the attack dogs all over Edwards? I will tell you why, it is because they are scared of him. Edwards is a young, attractive, articulate, family man, with a lot of pizzazz, who isn’t afraid to say the emperor isn’t wearing any clothes. Edwards will appeal to the young voters, the soccer moms, the trade unionists, blacks, and southerners. The addition of Edwards to the ticket puts several formally safe southern Republican states back in to play. This will force the Bush campaign to spend millions on states they once considered “in the bag”. This force Bush to take money and time away from the critical battleground states.

This administration loves to attack and call its opponents names. When they can’t defend their positions or actions they resort to attacks. After the conventions and the American public starts paying closer attention to politics the Bush team will be in trouble. They will have two choices; the first will be to defend their record and the second will be to continue the personal attacks. Since they really can not defend their actions, I guess the personal attacks will just continue until Election Day.
