Kerry Pulls Ahead in Florida - Zogby Predicts Kerry Victory!

Palm Beach Post: "For the first time this week, U.S. Sen. John Kerry pulled ahead of Bush in Florida, according to a poll that has been tracking voter opinion in 10 key states. Just three days before the election, The Palm Beach Post/ Reuters/ Zogby International poll showed that 47 percent of likely voters in the Sunshine State supported Kerry, while 45 percent said they supported Bush. Pollster John Zogby said much can be learned from the gridlock that seems to plague the race. "At this stage, incumbent Bush shouldn't be struggling in key states where 131 electoral votes are at stake, Bush's struggles," he said, "are Kerry's gains." That's why he said he has no compunction about calling the race for Kerry. "It's a hunch," said Zogby, who is known for his unconventional methods. 'I'm looking at the president's numbers as an incumbent, and they're not good.'" More

King George abuses 1st Amendment

John Nichols: "Tom Jefferson argued that the rebellion against King George III was unfinished business. (He) went so far as to suggest that the tree of liberty would need to be watered every 20 years or so with the blood of patriots. When another King George brought his royal tour to southwestern Wisconsin Tuesday, high school students in Richland Center got a powerful lesson regarding the difficulty of stamping out the regal impulse in the lesser leaders of our age. The Bush campaign rented the local high school and applied the divine right of kings - or at least one ill-prepared and inarticulate boy king - to a public school. Richland Center students were informed that they could attend the audience with His Highness only if they donned a Bush for President T-shirt or so-called "neutral clothing." What they could not wear was any clothing that promoted the cause of any dissenter to the rule of King George. If they showed up dressed inappropriately they would be removed..." More

Cover up! Why didn’t the Administration let the UN inspectors back in Iraq? Because they new they failed to secure the conventional weapons.

Boston Globe - WASHINGTON -- United Nations weapons inspectors pressed for permission to return to Iraq to help monitor weapons sites on the heels of the US-led invasion but were denied entry by the US-led coalition, according to a former inspector, UN officials, and a letter from the International Atomic Energy Agency obtained by the Globe.

The sites included Al Qaqaa, a sprawling facility about 30 miles south of Baghdad. At least 377 tons of powerful explosives, including the particularly dangerous substance known as HMX, have vanished from that location. More

Looks like the Tony Blair thinks Bush is going to loose the election

The British Prime Minister’s wife blasted President Bush over Human Rights during a speech to Harvard law students. Why would on of Bush’s strongest allies allow his wife to attack him in the USA just days before the election? Could it be that Tony Blair wants Bush to loose, or does Blair feel he was sold a bill of goods (like most Americans do) over the war in Iraq? Shameful – Bush doesn’t want Americans to be safe he wants them to be afraid

What does it say about a President who would rather have Americans feel Afraid then safe? It says to me that he need to be shown the door on Tuesday. Here is what the Bush team is saying:

WASHINGTON (AP) - The State Department on Friday urged the government of Qatar, which finances Al-Jazeera, not to broadcast a videotaped speech by Osama bin Laden, a senior State Department official said.

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the State Department spoke to officials in Qatar before Al-Jazeera showed a portion of the tape. In it, the al-Qaida leader said the United States can avoid another attack if it stops threatening the security of Muslims. Read more

What Is a War President?

Franklin D. Roosevelt's grandson assesses George W. Bush's performance

A War President isn't self-proclaimed. A president becomes a true War President by leadership that inspires followers at home and abroad. And most importantly, a War President never loses sight of the goals of true peace with honor.

For Bush to grant himself this title is an insult to my grandfather and the inspired leaders who led this country in wars that were just. To put it simply, George W. Bush has not earned the right to be called a War President. Read the whole story

GOP group milks vulnerable senior citizens

The College Republican National Committee has raised $6.3 million this year through an aggressive and misleading fund-raising campaign that collected money from senior citizens who thought they were giving to the election efforts of President Bush and other top Republicans.

Many of the top donors were in their 80s and 90s. The donors wrote checks — sometimes hundreds and, in at least one case, totaling more than $100,000 — to groups with official sounding-names such as "Republican Headquarters 2004," "Republican Elections Committee" and the "National Republican Campaign Fund."

And little of the money went to election efforts. (source Seattle Times) Read more

How incompetent are the people running this war?

Can things get any worse in Iraq? How incompetent are the people running this war? This story will amaze you. And the Administration would have you believe they are making us safer!

BAGHDAD, Iraq, Oct. 24 - The Iraqi interim government has warned the United States and international nuclear inspectors that nearly 380 tons of powerful conventional explosives - used to demolish buildings, produce missile warheads and detonate nuclear weapons - are missing from one of Iraq's most sensitive former military installations.

The huge facility, called Al Qaqaa, was supposed to be under American military control but is now a no-man's land, still picked over by looters as recently as Sunday. United Nations weapons inspectors had monitored the explosives for many years, but White House and Pentagon officials acknowledge that the explosives vanished after the American invasion last year.

The International Atomic Energy Agency publicly warned about the danger of these explosives before the war, and after the invasion it specifically told United States officials about the need to keep the explosives secured, European diplomats said in interviews last week. Administration officials say they cannot explain why the explosives were not safeguarded, beyond the fact that the occupation force was overwhelmed by the amount of munitions they found throughout the country.

The Bush campaign of FEAR, Smear and lies continues

Just a note; I used factcheck.org which is the non-political website Dick Cheney wanted you to go to for the truth. So I took the Vice-Presidents advice and this is what I found.

In Bush’s most recent Ad titled “Wolves” the soft spoken voice Says “even after the first terrorist attack on America” (which most people would think 9-11). The Ad claims “John Kerry and the liberal in congress voted to slash intelligence spending by 6 billion dollars”. If you look at the source the Ad uses, it is based on a bill in 1994, which is eight years before 9-11. Also the cut they are talking about was part of a budget deficit reduction bill which would cut intelligence spending by 4% (that is hardly gutting). What the Ad does not say is that in 1995 Porter Goss, who is now Bush’s CIA Director, co-sponsored an even strong measure that would have cut CIA personnel by 20 percent over five years.

Why must Bush lie, and scare the public? Well the answer is simple; they can not win running on their record.

A 27-year-old registered Republican and member of the U.S. Army, along with three other people around him, was forced to leave the arena before getting inside. This is a very troubling story.

This is just the most recent case in a long line of ordinary citizens who have been denied the right to see their president. What does it say about a man who will only allow you see him speak if you sign a loyalty oath and you don’t wear anything that could be viewed controversial? This sounds like something you would see in totalitarian state – Not in America!

Who is watching the store?

US Newswire: John Edwards stated: "There's a problem when our troops are in harm's way, fighting for a secure Iraq and our national security adviser is out on the stump campaigning instead of working. There's a problem when the Vice President is warning of a nuclear attack and the Homeland Security Secretary who has declared that he is separate from politics spends the bulk of his time traveling battleground states. There's a problem when there is a flu shot shortage and the Secretary of Health and Human Services is too busy advocating for George Bush instead of those who most need these shots. There's a problem when the economy has lost 800,000 jobs and the Treasury Secretary is out on the stump calling these losses a myth instead of focusing on bringing them back.... But I know how to fix this problem -- it's called Election Day. On Nov. 2, we're going to cast the votes to put John Kerry into the White House and we're going to nip this problem in the bud." College Students Plan to Vote in Record Numbers; Students favor Kerry 52-39

Nearly 72 percent of college students report that they are "certain" they are registered to vote and "definitely" plan on voting this November. The Harvard poll also reports that Senator Kerry maintains a 17- point advantage among likely voters in key swing states" What is most interesting is that while more college students say Bush 'takes a clear stand" on issues and comes on stronger as a leader, they don't see these things as a good thing in Bush. URGENT! - The 9/11 Secret in the CIA's Back Pocket

The agency is withholding a damning report that points at senior officials

I used to think we lived in a open democracy, but I am not sure any more. What does it say about a government that can hide facts from its citizens which may help to sway a presidential election in the favor of the incumbent?

It is shocking: The Bush administration is suppressing a CIA report on 9/11 until after the election, and this one names names. Although the report by the inspector general's office of the CIA was completed in June, it has not been made available to the congressional intelligence committees that mandated the study almost two years ago.

"It is infuriating that a report which shows that high-level people were not doing their jobs in a satisfactory manner before 9/11 is being suppressed," an intelligence official who has read the report told me, adding that "the report is potentially very embarrassing for the administration, because it makes it look like they weren't interested in terrorism before 9/11, or in holding people in the government responsible afterward." TEHRAN, Iran -- The head of Iran's security council said Tuesday that the re-election of President Bush was in Tehran's best interests, despite the administration's axis of evil label, accusations that Iran harbors al-Qaida terrorists and threats of sanctions over the country's nuclear ambitions.

What does the flue vaccine shortage say about the war on terrorism?

What does the flue vaccine shortage say about the war or terrorism and the state of our health care system? If the Administration can not make sure that Americans have an adequate supply of flue vaccine, which we know long in advance what we need, then what would happen if we were hit with a biological attack which required a large amount of antidote or vaccine to prevent a major loss of life? If this Administration can not provide the citizenship with an ample supply of common flu vaccine what makes anyone believe that they can respond to even a small bio-attack? This flu vaccine shortage drives a dagger in the Administration’s argument that they are best equipped to keep us safe from a terrorist attack. Read more

Unless we drain the swamp of injustice in which the mosquitoes of terrorism breed, we'll never defeat the threat of terrorism.

By invading Iraq we not have drained that swamp; instead we have filled the swamp to the top and created another swamp.

Proof that the Administration is reckless with your money

"The Bush Administration cannot account for how billions of dollars of Iraqi oil proceeds were spent," Waxman said. "The mismanagement, lack of transparency, and potential corruption will seriously undermine our efforts in Iraq. A thorough congressional investigation is urgently needed."

The audit was performed by the accounting firm KMPG for the International Advisory and Monitoring Board, created by the United Nations to monitor the stewardship of Iraqi funds.

The report monitored spending by the Coalition Provisional Authority, the U.S.-run governing agency which went out of existence in June; Iraqi ministries; the Kurdish Regional Government and Iraqi provisional governments. It covered the period from January to June this year. Read the whole story from the Associated Press

Day in the Life of Joe Middle-Class Republican

Joe gets up at 6:00am to prepare his morning coffee. He fills his pot full of good clean drinking water because some liberal fought for minimum water quality standards. He takes his daily medication with his first swallow of coffee. His medications are safe to take because some liberal fought to insure their safety and work as advertised.

All but $10.00 of his medications are paid for by his employers medical plan because some liberal union workers fought their employers for paid medical insurance, now Joe gets it too. He prepares his morning breakfast, bacon and eggs this day. Joe’s bacon is safe to eat because some liberal fought for laws to regulate the meat packing industry.

Debates – Kerry/Edwards 4 Bush/Cheney 0

Well the debates are over and the dust is settling and it is apparent that the Bush/Cheney team lost every debate. The last debate was another example of the Bush strategy to avoid answering the tough questions, call John Kerry names, ignore the truth and the most important part of their strategy is to change the subject. The president once again showed that his toughest challenge in the debate was to speak in complete sentences. His answer over and over again to unemployment was the “No Child Left Behind” bill; how does educating our children help the father that is laid off? Don’t get me wrong I believe that it is paramount that our children are well educated, but the president showed once again he is out of touch with reality.

The president was proud of his administrations border control; I guess he is telling us that 4000 illegal aliens crossing the borders every day is good for our economy and our security.

We learned that Bush said he would have signed the assault weapons band, but did nothing to encourage the bills passage, and the National Riffle Association endorses him today.

In the last debate Bush tried to explain why he will not let senior’s import drugs from Canada, and tonight he tells us we are going to get the flu vaccine from Canada. Does this make Bush a flip flopper?

Bush could not outline a plan to address the health care crisis, but attacked misstated Kerry’s position. I guess that is why the score after three debate the score is Kerry/Edwards 4 and Bush/Cheney 0. If the American people have been paying attention John Kerry will win this election by a landslide, if they haven’t been paying attention God help us.

Has the bungling of the war helped terrorist obtain nuclear equipment?

Due to a lack of planning by the Bush Administration Iraqi nuclear equipment was stolen after the fall of Saddam.

In an October 1 letter to the UN Security Council, International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Mohamed ElBaradei said he was concerned that material and equipment, in some cases entire buildings housing sophisticated technology, are disappearing from Iraq.

So-called dual-use equipment -- with peaceful as well as weapons-making applications -- is disappearing, ElBaradei said, raising fears terrorists could get their hands on it. (Source)

Security Scholars Say Iraq War Most Misguided Policy Since Vietnam

The U.S. invasion and occupation of Iraq has been the “most misguided” policy since the Vietnam War, according to an open letter signed by some 500 U.S. national-security specialists.

“I think it is telling that so many specialists on international relations, who rarely agree on anything, are unified in their position on the high costs that the U.S. is incurring from this war,” said Prof. Robert Keohane of Duke University in North Carolina.

Their critique mirrors an unprecedented statement released by 27 retired top-ranking Foreign Service and military officials last June, any of whom said they had voted for Bush in the 2000 election.
The 27, called Diplomats for Change, accused the administration of the country “into an ill-planned and costly war from which exist is uncertain and charged that the March 2003 invasion. Read the whole story

It sure is amazing what 60 million advertising blitz along with a complicit press will buy these days. Since Bush Can't Run on His Record, His Campaign Has to Hunt-and-Peck Kerry's Words Out of Context

"Bush's campaign announced Sunday... a new commercial [using] a quote from an 8,000-word New York Times Magazine article about Democratic presidential nominee John Kerry. The parsing prompted the Kerry camp to retort that the soon-to-be-released Bush ad was another example of the president's campaign taking words out of context to create a misleading impression." Here are Kerry's actual words. "We have to get back to the place we were, where terrorists are not the focus of our lives, but they're a nuisance. As a former law enforcement person, I know we're never going to end prostitution. We're never going to end illegal gambling. But we're going to reduce it, organized crime, to a level where it isn't on the rise. It isn't threatening people's lives every day, and fundamentally, it's something that you continue to fight, but it's not threatening the fabric of your life." But the Bush 'Nuisance' Ad will distort this quote to mean that Kerry doesn't understand the terrorism threat. Read the CNN report (Source Democrats.com)

I can not believe I actually agree with Bob Barr

I can not believe I actually agree with Bob Barr. During the Clinton years I couldn’t stand to listen to this guy, but I have to respect a man who believes in his principles. Bob Bar wrote a article slamming George Bush for his job as president. Being a progressive I find it scary when I am in agreement with a true conservative. Below is an excerpt from his article.

Voting for president used to be so easy, at least for a conservative. There was the Republican candidate. You knew he generally stood for lower taxes, less government spending, giving fewer powers to the government, lower deficits and a zealous regard for individual privacy. Read the whole article

Debates – Bush bombs again

Let me start by saying Bush’s performance on last nights debate was 100% better from the first debate, but he didn’t even close to showing the public why he should be given four more years as our president. Bush could not give us any credible reason why the next four years of a Bush administration would be any better than the last four years.

Bush’s aggressive condescending attitude will not set well with the public. His performance reminded me of the mistake Gore made in the 2000 debate, when he invaded Bush’s space, which turned off voters. A presidential debate is a job interview and if you were interviewing Bush and he acted like he did last night, would you hire this guy? I would tell him I had chosen someone else for the job and suggest that he go home immediately and take his Prozac.

With the constant flow of bad news flowing in from Iraq, the sputtering economy, and the poor debate performances the Bush/Cheney campaign is imploding. With Bush going south in the poles, we should be getting one of those terror alerts in the near future. The Bush/Cheney team will turn their campaign of fear and smear into high gear which is the only chance they have of winning this election. I just hope the electorate is smart enough to see past the distortions, lies and empty promises and make the correct choice this November 2nd.

EPA's Chief Under Nixon Rips Bush on Environment - Says he will vote for Kerry

Russell Train is so disappointed in President Bush's environmental record that the staunch Republican, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's second leader 30 years ago, is casting his vote in November for Democrat John Kerry.

Train, 84, EPA administrator under Presidents Nixon and Ford from 1973 to 77, was in Madison Tuesday in support of Environment2004, an organization trying to end what it calls the anti-environmental agenda of the Bush administration.

A Washington insider for more than half a century, Train said the Bush administration's performance is a radical rollback of environmental rules to benefit special interests. Read the whole story

LIE PATROL....It's easy to get cynical about politicians lying, but last night's debate was remarkable for the number of times Dick Cheney told flat-out fibs. Cheney brazenly lie in front of a national audience, and he did it at least half a dozen times. Here's a summary:

Inspector: Iraq had no WMD before invasion

Contradicting the main argument for a war that has cost more than 1,000 U.S. lives, the top U.S. arms inspector reported Wednesday that he had found no evidence that Iraq produced weapons of mass destruction after 1991. He also concluded that Saddam Hussein’s weapons capability weakened, not grew, during a dozen years of U.N. sanctions before the U.S. invasion last year. (MSNBC)

JOBS - Quality not Quantity

As the administration brags about their job growth record (should be lack of job growth record), a new study show Americans are concerned about the poor quality of the jobs which are replacing the good jobs that are leaving our country (as this administration just stands by).

A recent study released from Corporate Voices for Working Families, with 48 major corporations as partners, finds the voting public is more concerned about the quality of jobs being created than about job growth overall. More than six out of 10 people surveyed think that a lack of good wages and benefits is a bigger problem than a shortage of jobs; 68 percent think most new jobs being created in this country are lower-paying, and without benefits; and only 13 percent view new jobs as "good-paying," full-time jobs with benefits. Rice admits Bush lied

National security advisor said on Sunday that she knew that the claims, that Saddam was getting aluminum tubes for his nuclear program were false. Yet Bush still used them in his State of the Union Address. Rice said that “they were part of a larger body of evidence pointing to a nuclear threat”. So I guess if you mix some lies in with the truth its okay. Wait a minute the other so called fact about Saddam’s nuclear program was also a lie. You remember, Bush told us that Saddam was purchasing yellow cake for his weapons program from Africa. Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld said on Monday he knew of no "strong, hard evidence" linking Saddam Hussein's Iraq and al Qaeda, despite describing extensive contacts between the two before the Iraq invasion. What were the reasons we went to war in Iraq? They were WMD’S, nuclear threat and the link to 9-11. Since all the main reasons for the invasion have been proven false or out right lies, the Administration said he was a bad man. New CIA executive director resigns before he starts

On October 3rd I reported that one of Bush’s big oil buddies had been appointed the new executive director of the CIA. The former vice president at Chevron-Texaco, Michael Kostiw resigned over shoplifting allegations dating back from 1980. The Washington post also reported that Kostiw worked for the CIA as a case officer for 10 years and was forced to resign in 1982. This makes perfectly good sense; appoint a shoplifter who was fired by the CIA, as the agency’s executive director. We does the administration find these guys. (Source)

The morning after the debate, the chief political correspondent for Fox News, Carl Cameron wrote a story full of phony quotes from John Kerry. It appears to me that Fox News channel has their own Jayson Blair. The unfunny story pandering to all the right-wing distortions of John Kerry was pulled from the website after complaints. What is disturbing is that instead for writing a factual story about the debate. Cameron, whose wife openly worked for the Bush Campaign, wrote a phony, unflattering, false story about John Kerry. John Kerry clearly won the debate

John Kerry shows the American public he has a plant to win the war on terror and George Bush showed the world he is clueless. Kerry looked presidential and Bush looked confused.

Kerry took off the gloves and took the President to the woodshed over the administrations prosecution of the war in Iraq, as well as the way Bush has handled the nuclear situations in North Korea and Iran. Bush seemed agitated and flustered at times, he referred to the terrorist as “folks”, and seemed confused at times.
